Push Physical Theatre at Symphony Space Memorizes Fathers, Kids

Last weekend, NYC Dads Group met up for a wonderful interpretive dance performance by Push Physical Theatre at Symphony Space on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. Dads and kids (and moms) were delighted by the performers’ acrobatic ability to combine storytelling through amazing physical strength and contortions. Similar to observing a magic show, there were definitely jaw-dropping moments where our children were asking, “how did they do that?”

If you’ve never been to Symphony Space, you should definitely check out this UWS gem. Symphony Space is a modern, intimate venue to introduce children to theater through their Saturday Series Just Kidding. Push’s kinetic performance was inspiring, mesmerizing, and unique.

Darren Stevenson, director of PUSH Physical Theatre, is an active and engaged father. Knowing that a group of fathers would be in the audience with their children, he created a special and hilarious video that demonstrates some handy dad exercises – best workout for busy dads – and was able to weave it into their afternoon performance. Pure awesomeness! Let us know what you think of it?

After the fantastic performance, NYC Dads and their kids received the royal VIP treatment with the opportunity to speak with the talented performers, and enjoy a backstage tour. The kids were excited to ask how certain tricks were performed, especially the headless iPad trick and the mysterious passing of the red ball. The performers were very open and friendly, and just as entertaining off-stage as on.
