My best friend who lived across the street would celebrate Hanukkah with us and I would celebrate Christmas with him and his family. It was GREAT.
I recall being sad that we missed the fanfare that went with Christmas, but we still went to the Santa Claus parade and my parents explained that we got 8-nights of presents (which rarely happened) but that was a huge bonus when you’re a kid trying to explain to your class why your holiday is better than theirs!
I think that exposing your children to all holidays and educating them about them is the best way to go. I want everyone to learn about Hanukkah and the miracle we’re celebrating and I want my kids to decorate a Christmas tree and experience the togetherness that comes at holiday time.
I just wish that SiriusXM would take one of their 5 Christmas stations which began playing 24/7 Christmas music as of late November and expand the one Hanukkah station which starts on the first day of Hanukkah and ends the last day. That station last year was playing Jonah and the Whale in regular rotation (certainly not a Hanukkah song, eh?).
Great post, BTW.
Cheers!
Warren
