I’m an introvert parenting an introvert, and certainly feel a twinge of guilt that maybe I’m setting an introvert’s example for him through how I behave. Then our second son was born, and he is NOTHING like our oldest. The younger one is much more of a natural extrovert. I’m reminded that my oldest, introverted son is a lot like me, and there’s nothing wrong with that! In fact, I’ll be able to have more empathy and to provide better coaching to him because of our shared experience in the world of extroverts out there. Sounds like you will too.

I almost felt like I may be letting him down at the park since I, personally, didn’t want to engage with the other parents there. Now that it’s more apparent that it’s just part of his personality (and not my fault), I’ve similarly changed my mindset a bit. He doesn’t have some problem or issue that I need to fix. It’s fine to be an introvert like me. And actually, he’s a lucky little dude that he has a dad who can understand where he’s coming from and can advocate for him when the extrovert’s world we’re surrounded by tries to tell him that he needs to change. Thanks for being so open with your experience, and know that there are many others out there that are having similar feelings about their introverted kids.
