I think the Boy Scouts should have communicated more closely and openly with the Girl Scouts about this change.

Possibly reasons could have been explained where the Girl Scouts would support this change rather than seeing the Boy Scouts as encroaching upon their membership base.

The ABC News article fails to source the statement, which originally appeared in an opinion piece on Huffington Post by Charles Garcia, a recently-elected board member of the Girl Scouts. The piece he wrote has already been redacted.

Reading one of your comments, I did a double take, though.

Why should anything have to change? Shouldn’t the standards to which we currently hold scouts ensure that anyone that participates would feel respected and welcome? The jokes or actions that could be disrespectful or demeaning should already be actively discouraged. Correct?
